Severely damaged teeth can be improved by installing porcelain dental veneers. If one or more teeth in your smile lack the sufficient enamel to secure a dental veneer, Dr. Shiva Hogugi will likely recommend restoring a questionable tooth with a porcelain crown.

This is essentially a porcelain replica of the enamel layer of the tooth. Once installed the permanent crown will restore the full function and appearance of a damaged tooth.

It’s common practice for it to take two separate appointments to fully restore a tooth with a porcelain crown. At the first appointment Dr. Shiva Hogugi will use a drill to remove the majority of the tooth enamel. Then he will make an impression of the abutment and surrounding teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab where the porcelain crown is custom made.

A hard plastic temporary crown will be secured onto the abutment to keep it safe.

Dr. Shiva Hogugi will call you back for the second appointment after the dental lab has completed the crown. The temporary crown will be carefully removed and your new permanent crown will be cemented in place.

If you have one or more cracked or otherwise damaged teeth in your smile, you should call Shiva Hogugi, DDS in West Bloomfield, Michigan at 248-669-5110 to explore your cosmetic restoration options.
