Untreated tooth decay poses a serious threat to your oral health and smile function. Beyond impairing your ability to chew food efficiently, it can also lead to an infection within the tooth and gums. In time, this could even result in a dangerous abscess forming in the gums.

In a situation like this, our dentist, Dr. Shiva Hogugi, might advocate extracting the entire tooth. Once your gums have healed following the extraction, we can replace the tooth by installing a dental bridge.

To do this, your dentist will need to form abutments out of the two closest teeth. This is done by using a drill and removing all of the tooth enamel. Your dentist will then form an impression of the area. This impression will be sent to a state-of-the-art dental lab where your new bridge will be made.

Your dentist will then secure a hard, plastic, temporary crown over each abutment to protect it while the lab technician is busy producing your final bridge.

A member of our staff will call you to schedule a brief second appointment when your bridge is ready. Your dentist will remove the temporary crowns and will cement your new bridge into place.

If you have a severely decayed tooth in your mouth, you should contact Shiva Hogugi, DDS at 248-669-5110 to see if a dental bridge in West Bloomfield, Michigan, is right for you.
